Sir Elton John has revealed the touching message he wants to write on his tombstone – and it’s not about his music.
The music legend, 77, has opened up about his desire to be remembered, above all, for his role as a father.
Elton, who shares sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with her husband, film producer David Furnish, 62, made the moving confession at the TIME Magazine Honors on Wednesday.
“On my tombstone, all I want it to say is, ‘He was a great father,'” he said. People magazine at the event in New York City.
Elton shared the same sentiment in an appearance on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, which aired the same day.
He said: ‘My legacy is that I was a great husband and an even better father… The music, the career is fantastic. It has been amazing, innovative.

‘But the most important thing for me in my life is to make sure that my children are happy, that they have a wonderful life and that I am good to them. That’s all that counts.’
It comes after Elton left husband David emotional in his new documentary after saying he “wouldn’t be around” to see his young children get married.
Elton, let the cameras capture his final three-year tour of Farewell Yellow Brick Road for the upcoming Disney+ film, Elton John: Never Too Late.
In one scene, reported by radio timesSir Elton is seen separated from his family while on tour in the US and shares that he will be leaving the road behind to “dedicate more time to raising my children”.
He also reflected on his health saying: ‘I want to see our children get married, but I don’t think I’ll be around for that.’
Emotional David, who married the Rocket Man singer in 2014, admits: “That really bothered me, because in my mind I think Elton is going to live forever – we all think that – and Elton is so vibrant it’s easy. something to believe, but it forces you to face that reality.’
Elton recently confirmed that his sight was gone after addressing guests at London’s Dominion Theater earlier this month, where he was among the guests at the red carpet launch of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.
Elton, who was accompanied by his husband, made the surprise confession while taking to the stage, weeks after revealing that an infection had left him visually impaired.
“On my tombstone, all I want it to say is, ‘He was a great father,'” she told People magazine at the event in New York City.
It comes after Elton left his husband David emotional in his new documentary after saying he “wouldn’t be around” to see his young sons get married (pictured in September).
He said: ‘As some of you will know, I have had problems and now I have lost my sight. “I haven’t been able to see the performance but I enjoyed it.”
Sir Elton was helped by David off stage and the icon credited her husband for helping him since his eyesight failed.
She added: ‘To my husband, who has been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to a lot of the previews… it’s hard for me to watch but I love listening to it and it sounded good tonight, OK. Thank you for coming!’
The music legend previously revealed that he lost sight in his right eye over the summer in France and as a result can’t see, read or look at anything.
Speaking to ABC News about his new documentary Never Too Late, Elton admitted he was unsure of his ability to record new music as he puts all his attention on his health.

He said: ‘It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to move. Unfortunately, in July I lost sight in my right eye because I had an infection in the south of France.
‘It’s been four months since I couldn’t see. And my left eye is not the best. So there is hope and encouragement that everything will be okay, but I’m a little stuck right now.
‘Because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording I don’t know, because I can’t see the lyrics to begin with.
“We’re taking an initiative to try to improve it, but at the moment that’s what we’re focusing on.”
