Sir Elton completed the look with white shorts and wore an eclectic selection of jewellery, including a large silver watch.

He shielded his eyes from the sun with his signature tinted glasses, while David showed his fashion flair in an animal print shirt.

The filmmaker also rocked white shorts and rounded out the outfit with espadrilles and a geometric print.

David protected himself from the novel coronavirus with a black face mask and tucked his raven braids under a beach hat.

Their holiday comes after Sir Elton’s acclaimed show It’s A Sin made him realize ‘how lucky he was’ to escape the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.

He praised the Channel 4 drama written by Russell T Davies and talked about his plans to invite the cast to his home for dinner, in a candid conversation with Will Manning about The Official Big Top 40.

It’s A Sin follows a group of friends throughout the 1980s as their hedonistic party life is infiltrated by the rise of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Sir Elton said he “dearly loved” lead actor and Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander, adding: “When I come back to England, which will be soon, I’m going to have dinner for the whole cast of It’s A Sin at our home because I love that program so much.

“It changed my… it didn’t change my life, but it made me realize how lucky I was to escape all that and be reminded of what happened. And so Russell T Davies and the cast come over for dinner and we laugh.’

In 2012, Sir Elton revealed that he would be dead of AIDS, as would his friends Freddie Mercury or Rock Hudson.

The rock superstar told the international AIDS conference in Washington DC that his years as a drink and drug addict put him at high risk of contracting HIV. He has now been sober for over 30 years.

He said, ‘This young man has hit rock bottom. His life was a mess, he got out of hand. He should have died. To be fair, he almost did.

“I really shouldn’t be here today,” he said. “I should be dead—six feet down in a wooden box.

“I should have contracted HIV in the 1980s and died in the 1990s, just like Freddie Mercury, just like Rock Hudson. Every day I wonder, how did I survive?’

Inspiring Sir Elton founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992 to support innovative HIV prevention, education programmes, direct care and support services for people living with HIV.

He is married to Canadian filmmaker David and the couple have two sons.
