Gymnastics legend Simone Biles claimed victory in the vault final in Paris on Saturday

Simone Biles claimed the seventh gold medal of her historic Olympic career with victory in the vault final on Saturday.

In front of a star-studded crowd that included actor John Travolta, track star Allyson Felix, entertainers Pharrell and Flavor Flav, her teammates and her parents, the 27-year-old gymnastics star averaged 15.3 on her signature Yurchenko double pike and Cheng vault to claim a second gold at the event eight years after triumphing in Rio.

This means that Biles, already the most decorated gymnast in history, is now only the second woman to win two vault crowns after Czechoslovakia’s Vera Casalavska (1984 and 1968).

The American has already won three gold medals in Paris, having already claimed victory in the team final and the individual competition. Her teammate Jade Carey took bronze, while Brazilian Rebecca Andrade took the silver medal.

Biles now has 10 career Olympic medals, tied for third among female gymnasts with the most medals. She also increased her medal tally at major international competitions to 40, the most among gymnasts.
