Home chefs are obsessed with a budget-friendly Kmart purchase that has “completely transformed” the way they cook.

Shoppers are flocking to their nearest Kmart stores to get their hands on the retailer’s dumpling presses ($1.75).

These convenient purchases can cut your dumpling preparation time in half and the end result is a delicious plate of restaurant-style food.

“I highly recommend dumpling presses,” said one Perth mum on Facebook, alongside a picture of her dinner.

“I love the presses, they are so easy to make with supermarket wrappers and minced meat,” praised another.

Shoppers are flocking to their nearest Kmart stores to get their hands on the retailer’s dumpling presses ($1.75).

Dumpling presses are easy to operate and can be used with homemade or store-bought dough.

They are also available in several colors, including blue, pink, green, and gray.

Many have already started praising this handy kitchen tool, with some sharing that they can also be used for other foods like cakes, cheese puffs, agnolotti, and more.

“The grandkids loved making mini cheese puffs with the presses,” one woman shared.

“This really takes all the hassle out of making dumplings,” another revealed.

“Absolutely fantastic, makes the whole process less tedious,” said one.

One mother also shared that her daughter loved helping her make dumplings so much that she asked for her own press.

‘I bought him an extra one and he uses it for his playdough – a little chef!’

Khanh Ong’s Cheap Pork and Cabbage Dumplings for $6

Ingredients

250 g minced pork from cuts removed from the bones

400 g wombok, salted and drained

3 chives finely chopped

A small nut of grated ginger

A small handful of finely chopped cilantro stems

2 teaspoons chicken broth powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Method

  • Yield: 40 balls of dough
  • Finely cut the wombok and then place it in a bowl.
  • Salt the wombok and let it soak for 15 minutes to extract the moisture.
  • Remove the meat from the pork bones and chop by hand.
  • Chop the scallions and cilantro then combine with the minced pork and wombok.
  • Season the filling with salt, pepper, grated ginger, and chicken broth powder.
  • Once the mixture is combined, begin pouring small amounts into dumpling wrappers.
  • Dip your finger in water and run it along the edges of the wrapper.
  • Fold the wrapper and close the dough ball by pinching the top.
  • Heat a little oil in a frying pan and dry the meatballs until the bottom is golden brown.
  • Add a splash of water to the pan and cover with a lid to cook the food.
  • Serve with sauce or as is.

Khanh also asked home cooks to decide whether to prioritize cheaper purchases or find all ingredients in the same place to save time.
