A shopper was left scratching her head after finding some unusual donuts in the bakery section of Coles.

The customer was looking for a sweet treat and went to buy a six-pack of frozen donuts, but quickly changed his mind after seeing the “sad” contents inside the box.

The pink, yellow and chocolate ice cream was much thinner than advertised, with holes in the middle larger than normal.

“The audacity of these donuts,” said the disappointed buyer on a Reddit mail.

“I was considering buying some donuts today, but I changed my mind after seeing these sad, thin rings of dough.”

Many thought the failed batch of baked goods was hilarious and quickly shared their best donut pun.

—Are we sure they haven’t glazed some onion rings by mistake? someone asked.

‘Holey Hell,’ one second joked and another joked that they should be called ‘Noghnuts.’

Others accused the supermarket giant of making the donuts smaller on purpose, calling it a perfect example of “shrinkflation” in which companies reduce the size or weight of items while the price remains the same.

“I can’t even imagine how marginal the savings on this would be,” said one user, while another responded: “Marginal in isolation, but do it on 100 products and add them all up.”

However, people pointed out that the likely cause was a baking error.

“Either they are bad bakers that day or a bad batch… I literally have some on the kitchen bench right now and they are the same size as always,” said one Coles employee.

“I think the guy with work experience must have been at the bakery that day,” laughed another.

‘I’m probably the new kid who doesn’t know how to make them…although I can’t believe they actually put them on the shelf. “I bought some yesterday and they were as plump as ever,” wrote a third.

“Don’t think that’s shrinkage, I think it’s just a shitty baker making them,” someone added.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for comment.
