The Greendale Police Department received more than a dozen calls after 7 p.m. on Feb. 27, reporting that the girl had fallen from the second floor of the Southridge Mall.
Images obtained by 12 News shows paramedics and officers crowding around her after she miraculously survives.
The little girl, lying on the ground, calls her father.
“Does something hurt?” Your head? What hurts?’ asks an officer.
“My back and my arm,” replies the young girl.
‘Your back and your arm? All right. You don’t remember falling and hurting him? asks the officer. The girl answers no.
Body camera footage released by the Greendale Police Department shows the moments after the little girl fell from the second floor of the Southridge Mall.
The six-year-old allegedly tried to climb onto the railing “like Superman” when she fell to the ground.
She told police she did not remember the fall, but reported pain in her back and arm.
The little girl was taken to the hospital and released later that week. His parents told police they were already on the second floor when the accident happened.
First responders are later seen lifting the girl and gently placing her on a stretcher so she can be taken to the hospital.
In the hospital room, a Greendale police officer spoke with his father and stepmother.
The parents said they got off the escalator to go to Champs Sporting Goods when they realized the little girl was several feet behind them.
“I thought she was right next to us but she was near the escalator,” the girl’s stepmother said.
“And by the time we turned around to call her, she was like, oh, kind of like, ‘Hey, look what I can do.’
The girl’s father claimed they were between five and seven feet from the girl when they saw her grabbing the railing.
“We were already on the second floor. And she grabs the top of the rail. And she goes, and she was like Superman,” the man said.
Police also questioned witnesses. Some said they did not witness the accident, but heard the sound of the girl’s body hitting the ground.
One woman said she heard “a thud” before seeing the parents running down the escalator.
Another woman claimed to have seen the fall. “I looked and the little girl fell and mom and dad were turning around and we just heard a scream,” she told police.
“And I ran because I didn’t know if it was real. I didn’t know what it was.
The girl was released from the hospital later that week, authorities said. The incident is not under investigation because it is suspicious and appears to be an accident.
