Former NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley had an embarrassing moment trying to read a simple statement about the women’s state of origin on live television.

Canberra legend Daley appeared on Fox Sports’ Sunday Night With Matty Johns to offer the best value bets for the upcoming week of football in his regular role on the show.

New South Wales is the favorite to win the decider in the women’s State of Origin series when the teams play on Thursday night, but the former soccer star couldn’t convey that simple fact without a little help.

It was intended to inform viewers that Queensland was paying $2.05 for the win, compared to NSW paying $1.77.

“New South Wales obviously has to travel to North Queensland – it’s $1.77,” Daley incorrectly told viewers before realizing his mistake.

“Uh, sorry, New South Wales is the $1.77 favorite and Queensland is the outsider…”

‘Sorry, I’ll start with that again. Queensland are the favorites at $2.05. New South Wales is the loser in…’

The live audience burst out laughing at that point and Daley was saved by the show’s hosts, who were also giggling.

“The other way around…” said co-host Nathan Hindmarsh.

Laughing co-host Bryan Fletcher reached out to pat Daley on the knee as the audience cheered.

Meanwhile, New South Wales insist they will not be deterred as the weather forecast predicts more rain for the decider of the inaugural Origin women’s series.

In the words of NSW center Jess Sergis, the teams were like “pigs in the mud” as torrential rain fell during the second match in Newcastle earlier this month.

After the whistle blew on Queensland’s miraculous 11-10 victory, frustrated NSW coach Kylie Hilder admitted the rain had prevented the Sky Blues from playing their brand of football.

The conditions had made it difficult for the Sky Blues to activate their all-star outside defensive line, which had been key to the victory in the series opener.

“To explain it to everyone, I was saying we were literally pigs stuck in the mud,” Sergis said before Thursday’s decider in Townsville.

‘That’s what it felt like, running, stomping and the water was up to your thighs.

“I’ve never played in conditions like that before.”
