A security guard has died following an alleged assault at a hotel in Sutherland, in Sydney’s south.

Emergency services were called to the Royal Hotel on East Parade at around 2am on Sunday, following reports that a security guard had been assaulted.

Officers found the man, believed to be in his 30s, unconscious outside the pub.

Police performed CPR before the man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however he died at the scene.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Police were told the security guard was allegedly punched in the head by a customer after an altercation.

It is alleged that the man had been asked to leave the scene before the assault.

A 31-year-old man has been taken to Sutherland Police Station where he is “assisting police with inquiries”.

The hotel has been cordoned off and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
