Danny Care has signed a new contract with Harlequins that will see the former England scrum-half extend his stay at the London club into his 19th season.

As Mail Sport exclusively revealed early last month, the 37-year-old decided to turn down lucrative offers from France to commit to spending another year at Quins, who he joined from Leeds in 2006.

Care held talks with Bayonne and Perpignan, who offered him £400,000 a year for two years, but he opted to remain at The Stoop.

The Test centurion has made a record 374 appearances in the Quins first team and scored more than 100 tries in the process.

“I am excited to extend my contract with Quins for my 19th season at the club,” said Care, who lives in Surrey with his wife Jodie and their three children.

‘This is my home, I love everything about it, the rugby we play, our amazing fans and the memories we have made together.

‘It was an easy decision to sign the contract. We are building something very special. “I can’t wait to put on the quarters (Quins’ signature jersey) for another season.”

Last Sunday, Care and Quins faced the mighty Toulouse before losing the Champions Cup semi-final 38-26 in the south of France.

While the Londoners will now focus on the Premiership title chase, their city is set to host a blockbuster finals weekend, with the Champions Cup final on May 25 at a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and an increase in sales from the previous night’s Challenge Cup final between Gloucester and the Durban Sharks.
