Speaking on the podcast The Capsule in Conversation, Samia recalled, “ My first week of Dancing on Ice, I weighed just under seven pounds. I couldn’t eat anything.

Sylvian gave me donuts for a little sugar because I was so scared.

“I couldn’t sleep, I ran empty for the first few weeks because I was so nervous.”

‘Don’t worry so much, relax. I have been worried all my life, I had fear as a child, literally born with worry. ‘

The Coronation Street star, who plays Maria Conner on the soap, has been open about her struggles with anxiety in the past.

However, Samia found the coronavirus blocking manageable as it took the pressure off attending social events.

She explained, “Actually, this period was okay for me. I’ve always preferred a night out to a night out. It takes a lot to get me to a party, so I was happy to stay home.

But the biggest impact was on my fear, which I struggled with for a really, really long time.

‘I have found that it has finally relaxed while I was locked. I have had social anxiety most of my life which has been a major challenge.

‘But I’ve found everyone has to slow down now and I don’t have that pressure to attend social events. The hustle and bustle of life has disappeared.

‘I’ve been trying things to help for years and some of it has been good. I do yoga every day and did a webinar on anxiety yesterday with a clinical psychologist, but this period really helped me.

‘I hope that by talking about it I can assure other people that it is normal too, and that it is something you can deal with.

“Although, now I’m going to the supermarket wearing a mask and gloves, so that’s a different kind of fear.”

Mother of son Yves, five, with Sylvain and daughter Freya, 11, from a previous relationship, Samia shared how, despite her years in the public eye, she wants her children to have a normal upbringing.

She said, “I want my children to have the most normal upbringing possible. I’ve never been into showbizzy parties and events. I like to stay grounded and this could all end tomorrow.

‘I don’t want my life to be about going to showbiz events so it can all end. My movie schedule is very busy, but when there is downtime what I have outside is real.

“Our best friends aren’t famous and the novelty of what I do for a living is all worn out.”
