Sam Smith says touring Australia is bittersweet following the death of music director Michael Gudinsky

Sam Smith has opened up about touring Australia for the first time since the death of legendary music director Michael Gudinsky, saying it was a bittersweet experience.

The non-binary singer, 30, who uses the pronouns they/them, is currently in South Australia for a one-off show and admitted he just wasn’t the same without Gudinski.

“It’s a strange feeling to be here and Michael not to be around. He always looked after me so well and he brought this spirit of music to Australia.” Express Mail.

The esteemed music promoter, who worked with Sam when they toured Australia in 2018, died of mixed drug use in March 2021.

Sam admitted that although Gudinsky is gone, his powerful legacy is still evident to those he worked with.

They said, “He was an incredible force in this industry, and in this world, he left his mark on everyone around him and they still bring his magic.”

The Unholy hitmaker performed an exclusive one-night-only concert in South Australia on the Tuesday ahead of their national tour in October.

Sam has been seeing the sights Down Under in recent weeks.

The British star was recently spotted at the epic Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.

“It’s a strange feeling to be here and Michael not to be around. He always looked after me so well and he brought this spirit of music to Australia.”

Musician Daisy Dukes and a yellow polo shirt chose to pose for a photo with local butcher Bruce Tonning.

“Sam and I just hugged,” Blackheath Butcher shared on his Facebook page.

Sam has also called New Year’s Eve below and has been seen on Sydney’s famous Oxford Street, home to many LGBTQ nightclubs.
