Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively made a young boy’s dreams come true after calling up a Deadpool fan to invite him to watch a Wrexham match in a touching clip.

Nine-year-old Riley was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in 2023, and had his lower leg amputated.

Earlier this year, the family tragically discovered that Riley’s cancer had returned and spread and they began a online appeal from Micky Day of cancer charity Miles for Men on BBC Radio Tees to help Riley fulfill her wish to meet Ryan himself.

And the appeal was discovered by the actor on Twitter, when he contacted Micky via direct message and arranged a video call with Riley where he invited him to join him at his club in Wrexham.

In the sweet clip, Riley looked over the moon as Ryan said: ‘Well, hello Riley. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you.

Then he promised: ‘You’ve been through a lot and I can’t wait to meet you. I will make sure this is one of the best days of your life.

Ryan’s wife, Blake, also joined the call and joked, “You’re using Deadpool and Wolverine, which is your favorite?” as Ryan pronounced: ‘Deadpool’ under his breath.

As he left the room, he added, “I can say Wolverine was his favorite.”

Ryan then joked to Riley, “I have no idea who that was.” Thanks for playing the game. I was scared too.

He added: ‘Thank you for taking the time to chat. I really liked hanging out with you.’

Riley’s mother Sarah said: “It was amazing that they took so much time out of their busy day to make a little boy feel special.” Yes, it means everything.

“You could see what it meant to him to be starstruck.”

It is not the first time the Hollywood couple have shown their charitable side after donating £10,000 to the parents of a disabled four-year-old boy who suffers from a rare brain disorder.

Aaron and Charlotte Perrin’s son Louis was born with a genetic condition called TUBA1A, which causes painful leg spasms, limited mobility, epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

And the couple were ‘blown away’ after receiving a donation from Ryan and Rob McElhenney to adapt their home to their needs.

Louis is a big Wrexham AFC fan and his parents were surprised to see a £10,000 donation on their fundraising page from the club’s owners in February, to help adapt their home in the town.

Charlotte, who works in the emergency services, revealed: “Louis’ carer took a screenshot of the donation page and said, ‘Oh my god, look at that,’ and then I tried to contact my husband.”

Aaron, who is a headteacher, added: “I was at work and I was sitting in the staff room and I saw I had two missed calls from Charl and then a message from one of my governors saying, ‘Have you seen this?’

WHAT IS OSTEOSARCOMA?

Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer and is usually diagnosed in teenagers and young adults.

It occurs when cells that make new bone form a cancerous tumor.

The cause of cancer is unknown, but it is thought to be related to rapid bone growth, such as in adolescence.

Most tumors usually develop around the knee, either at the bottom of the femur or the top of the tibia.

If the cancer has not spread, the long-term survival rate is between 70 and 75 percent.

If osteosarcoma has already spread, for example to the lungs or other bones at the time of diagnosis, the long-term survival rate is about 30 percent.

Symptoms:

  • Bone pain (while moving, resting, or lifting objects)
  • bone fractures
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • limping
  • Limitation of joint movement.

There are some treatment options for osteosarcoma.

Chemotherapy, often given before surgery, uses drugs that help shrink and kill cancer cells. The length of treatment varies and may depend on whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

In most cases, surgeons can save the cancerous limb. The tumor and surrounding bone are removed, and the missing bone is replaced with an artificial one.

A rotationplasty is a procedure in which the lower part of the femur, the knee, and the upper part of the tibia are surgically removed. The lower leg is then rotated 180 degrees and attached to the femur.
