The pair’s relationship came to a turbulent end after the waitress, then 24, refused to sign a confidentiality agreement for the Great British Bake Off star, then 53, and the pair have since exchanged scathing comments thanks to a series of cryptic tweets.
Eamonn explained to viewers: “The baker, the man from Great British Bake Off, Paul Hollywood. He’s 53 and everyone is outraged because he’s got a girlfriend called Summer – not because her name is Summer, but because she’s 24.”
It then appeared the Irish presenter was planning to defend Paul, turning to Ruth and saying: “People like you, huffing and puffing, saying ‘well’. What if I ran away with a 24-year-old girl?”
But then Ruth appeared to turn to the younger women watching, adding: “Take it seriously, it’s yours.”
Eamonn joked that he would be left with a “spiteful ex” if he chose to leave Ruth, to which she said: “I’d be so spiteful. You wouldn’t want me.”
