Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finding it increasingly difficult to get attention compared to the Royal Family, making them increasingly irrelevant, according to Royal expert Jennie Bond. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have often timed their personal announcements to coincide with major royal events, a tactic that has prompted Bond’s comments.
One notable case occurred in March when Meghan launched her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, on the same day as the Diana Legacy Awards, which was attended by both Prince Harry and Prince William. This overlap sparked discussions about the couple’s media strategies.
“Honestly, I can’t imagine they’re sitting there planning to make announcements on the same day as an actual event. “Surely they are bigger than that?” he commented to OK!. He added: “It’s true that there have been some pretty strange coincidences in the past about the timing of some of their announcements. But I think they are becoming less and less relevant to the news here, and the Royal Family will always monopolize the attention.”
The trend continued with the launch of new products from Meghan’s brand on Trooping the Color day. Just two hours before the show, the Duchess introduced raspberry jam and dog biscuits to her product line.
In contrast, Princess Kate made major headlines by making her first public appearance in the midst of cancer treatment during Trooping the Color. Accompanied of her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Kate’s presence attracted global media coverage.
Jennie Bond’s insights suggest that, despite their efforts, Harry and Meghan are struggling to stay relevant and capture public interest around high-profile Royal Family events. This ongoing dynamic highlights the challenges the Sussexes face as they navigate their post-royal public image.
