And Lukaku, whose 24 league goals – making him the second top scorer in the division behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s 29 – helped Inter take the title, was overwhelmed with emotions after the game in a video posted on social media.
The 91-cap international, who wore his medal, used his T-shirt to wipe away tears and was comforted by strike partner Lautaro Martinez, who hugged him.
Twitter account Inter Pictures # 19 captioned the post: ‘I love you’, before tagging Lukaku’s official Twitter profile.
Lukaku, 28, has scored 24 league goals this season to help Antonio Conte’s side shoot to the title
The former Manchester United forward has scored 64 goals in 95 appearances in all competitions in the two seasons since moving from Old Trafford in August 2019.
Sportsmail reported earlier this month that Lukaku had hailed his teammates’ fight and determination as a major reason behind their title victory.
He said, “Every team needs players to go to war. (Nicolo) Barella and I, as well as Lautaro (Martinez) and (Marcelo) Brozovic, we’re crazy-headed! But we give ourselves energy.
‘The matches against Milan, Atalanta and Lazio were still waiting for us. Compared to last year, we have gained more direct collisions. We have shown that we are stronger.
“After the win against Atalanta, I said to myself,” Okay, we’re really here for the Scudetto. ”
