The owner of Mr. Goxx, who is not mentioned by name, shared the sad news in a message on the animal’s twitter account on Wednesday.

The portfolio peaked at nearly $580 in mid-September, as performance rose nearly 50 percent in less than three months, according to performance data collected by prototypes.

“Mr. Goxx can buy portions by passing through the tunnel multiple times without going into the wheel and there is a 20 second cool down time after activation,” the hamster’s owner told Protos in July.

“There are plans to give Mr. Goxx more control and let him consciously choose his purchase amount if interest in his channel continues to grow.”

The caretaker also set up a live stream on Twitch, passing by people to see the hamster in action and the most recent video sharing the news of the animal’s death.
