Lamine Yamal continues to make waves in the football world with his impressive performances at Euro 2024 with Spain.
The 16-year-old scored a wonderful goal that proved decisive in La Roja’s 2-1 semi-final win over France on Tuesday, as the Barcelona star became the youngest ever scorer at a European Championship.
The sky seems to be the limit for the winger, but he has been conspicuous by his absence in the EA FC 24 video game.
Despite being a star for both the Catalan giants and his national team, Yamal is not available for use by players in the virtual world, leading one to wonder why this is the case.
However, Yamal’s absence is due to the fact that he is only 16 years old, as EA Sports reportedly has a flexible rule preventing players under the age of 17 from appearing in the game.
Questions have been raised as to why Spanish young gun Lamine Yamal is not at EA FC 24
The Barcelona winger will not be able to play as he will not turn 17 until this weekend
This means he won’t be in EA FC 24’s career mode or online play options, and something similar happened to young stars of the past.
For example, in FIFA 23, PSG star Warren Zaire-Emery was unavailable for use at launch as he didn’t turn 17 until March 2023, while the same applied to Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko in FIFA 22.
However, this suggests that Yamal could be added once he turns 17, his birthday being this Saturday.
This means that players will soon be able to use the star, although there is a chance they will still have to wait until EA FC 25.
Meanwhile, although Yamal does not appear in the main edition of EA FC 24, he is available for use in the game’s Euro 2024 mode, providing some solace for fans.
This is even more important given that even if Yamal is added in a new update, he would not be available for use in Ultimate Team.
A similar fate befell PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery, who was 16 when FIFA 23 was released.
On the other hand, along with the previous examples of Zaire-Emery and Moukoko, other video games have had the problem of recruiting young talents.
For example, in 2014 the popular Football Manager series had to ask Martin Odegaard’s father for permission to add him to the game when he was just 15 years old.
However, Yamal is available for use by those playing Football Manager 24.
