Prince William ordered England players to stay calm and carry on during a covert speech to Gareth Southgate’s helpless players following their disappointing draw against Denmark.
The future king spoke to the England team in the dressing room after Thursday’s game at the Waldstadion, after the players’ sub-par performance sparked widespread criticism.
But the Prince of Wales attempted to lift spirits immediately after the final whistle by telling Southgate’s team not to overreact to the frustrating display.
“I was just trying to keep us all positive,” revealed England midfielder Adam Wharton.
‘I was saying it’s not the end of the world. We thought we were still first in the group, we didn’t lose, we tied, we just have to reflect on the game, see how we can improve and look forward to the next game. “That’s all you can do in a football tournament.”

The prince’s sentiments were echoed by England number one Jordan Pickford, who insists the team is relaxed after their forgettable night in Frankfurt.
“We are fine, we are calm, it is a football tournament, you have to enjoy the moment while you are here,” said the Everton star.
‘We have four points and we are first in the group. We know we can do much better in games, but we have not been defeated.
‘We have the same points after two games as in the last two tournaments and I would say we are calm.
‘The noise outside indicates that we have to act on Tuesday, but there is no need to panic. For me personally, we know we haven’t peaked yet.
‘Everyone is behind the coach. Everything we do in training and the meetings we have, he delivers brilliantly and gives us the right game plan.
“We weren’t perfect against Denmark, but it’s a good feeling because we know we can improve.”
“The narrative is going to change as we start to peak, but for now it’s all about Tuesday.”
England manager Gareth Southgate (centre) has been urged to reshuffle his starting line-up.
Meanwhile, Shaw is a major injury doubt for England’s final group clash against Slovenia on Tuesday, with the left-back also expected to miss Sunday’s training session.
The Manchester United star does not lose hope of being present in the tournament despite not recovering from the hamstring injury that has prevented him from playing for five months.
But after missing Saturday’s session at the team’s headquarters in Weimar, it is understood that Shaw will also miss Sunday’s training.
England doctors will decide whether Shaw can take part in Monday’s training session, but even if he is included there appears to be little hope he will be able to take part against Slovenia on Tuesday. Shaw has yet to play a single minute of football here in Germany.
