Ram TRX: World’s most powerful ute arrives in Australia with three-times more grunt Toyota HiLux
The world’s most powerful ute arrives in Australia with THREE times more grunt than the Toyota HiLux – as auto experts sick of ‘sanitised’ and ‘nanny state’ ads give it the full revhead treatment

- It is three times more powerful than the popular Toyota HiLux
- The TRX costs a whopping $199,950 plus on-road expenses
The world’s most powerful ute has finally arrived on the coast of Australia with three times more growl than the Toyota HiLux, and it has prompted revheads to create their own classic ad – a rally against ‘nanny state’ commercials.
Named after the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Ram TRX has made its debut Down Under, featuring a supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8 producing 523 kW, 702 hp and 882 Nm of torque.
Those numbers show the TRX outpacing every model in its class, even the new Ford Ranger Raptor — which Ram cheekily mocked with a depiction of a T-Rex eating a Velociraptor in the interior.
The Ram TRX starts at an eye-watering $199,950 with additional on-road costs — more than double its rival Raptor.
The revheads at CarSales celebrated its introduction to the Australian market by creating a classic commercial for the TRX, an ode to the screeching tires and roaring engines of past car commercials.
“Car ads are so cleaned up in Australia. Gone are the days of high speeds, power slides and clouds of dust performed to an equally epic soundtrack. The nanny state, naysayers and advertising watchdog have put an end to that,” said website spokesman Sam Charlwood.

“So when an epic new car like the Ram 1500 TRX launches in Australia, you know it wouldn’t get the promotion it deserves. So we took matters into our own hands.’
CarSales produced a clip that they say “the creators of Holden’s VU SS Ute Thunderstruck TVC would be proud of” as they shove and kick the brand new Ram through an empty, straight, and muddy forest.
The new 1500 model has a wider chassis to fit its monstrous 325mm tires, with a new hood designed to increase airflow to the 6.2L supercharger.

A 12-inch touchscreen offers passengers a number of features, including the 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo — which Ram describes as the “best and most powerful audio system available in a pickup truck.”
The TRX also features launch control and eight different driving modes, can reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 190 km/h – despite weighing more than three tons.
The huge price is due to Ram having to convert the ute from the left-hand drive to the left-hand drive for its Australian customers.
The TRX sells for $113,500 in the United States, a discount of about $87,000.

With an imposing footprint and a captivating growl, this is a truck that will be seen and heard loud and clear. With a wider track, performance-tuned shocks, massive 35-inch tires and a menacing stance, the TRX stands out as the most muscular truck to ever leave the RAM factory,” said Ram.
“With its segment disrupting style, luxury, capability, technology and performance, the TRX defies convention and redefines what a pickup truck can be.”
The TRX is now available in all Ram showrooms in Australia.
