Rafael Devers hits home run in record 6th straight game to lift Red Sox past Rays

Rafael Devers set a new team record Monday night in Florida.

The Boston Red Sox star has been virtually unstoppable at the plate so far this season and shows no signs of slowing down.

Devers hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning of their 5-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday at Tropicana Field. It was the sixth consecutive game in which Devers hit a home run, setting a new Red Sox record and giving him the longest streak in the majors this season.

Devers’ streak began with their 4-3 loss to the Rays at Fenway Park last week. Although the Red Sox have won only twice during his career, Devers has hit a home run each time. He tied the team record with a two-run homer in the sixth inning of their 11-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, which snapped a season-long four-game losing streak.

Six other Red Sox players had homered in five consecutive games. Bobby Dalbec was the most recent player to do so in 2020. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout posted a seven-game streak in 2022. The MLB record is eight games and was most recently achieved by Ken Griffey Jr . in 1993.

Devers has hit 10 home runs so far this season and has recorded one hit in the Red Sox’s last 10 games. His six-game home run streak also tied the longest by a third baseman in the last 100 years. according to ESPN.

Devers entered Monday with a .285 batting average, a career-high .384 OBP and a .555 slugging percentage. The 27-year-old has 23 RBIs so far this season, his eighth also in Boston. The Red Sox’s win on Monday moved them back to 24-24 on the year, although they sit in fourth place in the American League East standings.
