Cunard’s new ship Queen Anne has entered UK waters for the first time, making a grand entrance to its home port of Southampton.
The 14-deck, 113,000-ton ship, the 249th ship to sail under the cunard flag – was greeted with a salute on the water on Tuesday evening, having arrived on the south coast of England from the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy.
It took him five years to build and complete a quartet alongside the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria; Since 1999, Cunard had not had four ships in simultaneous service.
Her maiden voyage as a passenger begins tomorrow (Friday), when she departs for Lisbon, Portugal, with Cunard’s first female captain at the helm: Inger Klein Thorhauge.
Queen Anne, which has a top speed of 40.7 kilometers per hour (25 mph), can carry 3,000 passengers and features “several impressive experiences and more entertainment, restaurant and bar options than ever before,” Cunard said.

Guests can enjoy “stunning ocean views” from the Panorama Pool Club (above), which features a central pool and whirlpools.

And it features the largest curated collection of art at sea, with 4,000 works of art by painters, photographers and illustrators adorning its decks.
On board the £500 million ship there are 15 restaurants, “from light snacks and delicacies to the latest in gastronomy”.
Michel Roux, owner of the two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche restaurant in London, has developed an exclusive gala menu for the Queens Grill restaurant and a new menu for the Queen Anne pub, the Golden Lion.
Queen Anne also has four new-concept dining experiences: Japanese-inspired Aji Wa, Indian-inspired Aranya, Sir Samuel’s Steakhouse and Mediterranean-inspired Tramonto.
Guests will also have exclusive use of dining “appropriate to their stateroom type,” from the “grand two-level Britannia restaurant” to the “opulent settings” of Princess Grill and Queens Grill dining.

The crux of the matter: upstairs is the opulent Princess Grill restaurant, a place for those staying in the Princess Grill suites.
The captain of the Queen Anne is Inger Klein Thorhauge, Cunard’s first female captain.
Those staying in a Princess Grill Suite are invited to dine at the Princess Grill restaurant, and those staying in the Queens Grill Suites are welcomed at the Queens Grill restaurant, Cunard said.
Guests can also enjoy “stunning ocean views” from the Panorama Pool Club, which features a central pool and whirlpools, and play paddle tennis and practice putting at the Sky Bar and Observation Deck.
The venue’s programming is further enhanced by The Pavilion, “a smart space” that features a swimming pool, as well as a central stage and a large LED screen for outdoor theatre.
Cabana, meanwhile, is “a relaxed leisure bar offering a selection of vibrant rum-based cocktails.”
Other venues include the Commodore Club, an exclusive martini bar, Room 1840, a casino where guests can enjoy the “glamour of Monte Carlo”, and the Royal Court Theatre, a “daily destination for Cunard’s premier entertainment”.
The “jewel of Cunard’s suite of public venues,” however, is the Queens Room, the “flagship multi-purpose lounge and events venue that hosts everything from daytime activities for large groups to spectacular evening gala celebrations.”
Extra doses of rest and relaxation are doled out in a new wellness studio on the upper deck.
Cunard added: “Queen Anne will have a heightened focus on health and wellbeing, with the widest selection of fitness, beauty, thermal and spa facilities ever seen on a Cunard ship.”
