King Frederick and Queen Mary “earned” more than A$3 million from carrying out their royal duties last year, according to a financial report published by the Danish Palace.

Of that huge sum, A$498,359 was set aside as a direct “grant” for then-Crown Princess Mary.

Most of the couple’s joint income, paid for by the state, which also covers other “dependent” members of the royal family, went towards accommodation and staff costs.

They were left with just under A$640,000 to spend however they wanted on unofficial travel, clothing and other personal expenses.

Princess Mary is known as the thrifty princess, but she is also revered for her style and love of designer staples.

While the couple’s income appears to be high, it is nothing compared to what they could take home in 2024.

If former Queen Margaret’s 2023 A$13 million grant is taken into account, with a private allocation of A$2.9 million, then Queen Mary and her family are in for a huge “pay rise” .

The couple’s financial future is yet to be decided as the government plans to reform the royal descent system.

The new legislation will indicate how much money will be given to the royal household and how it will be divided between money for living expenses and money they can use “as they wish.”

The “exact” amount is not yet known, according to the Danish press, as the government has not yet commented on the issue.

Unlike British royalty, the Danish royal family is exempt from paying taxes.

The couple also have other sources of income and were caught renting out their “secret” Swiss ski lodge on AirBnB for up to $20,000 a week.
