PSG manager Luis Enrique has bizarrely claimed that his tactics suit Barcelona better than those of the club’s current coach, Xavi, ahead of the teams’ Champions League clash on Wednesday.

The 53-year-old coach has started the mind games with his opponent on the bench before the quarter-final clash by commenting on the tactics that Xavi will use against the Parisians.

Enrique already enjoyed tremendous success at the Camp Nou when he led Barcelona to a legendary treble in 2015, after spending eight years at the club as a player and three as a coach.

However, despite taking the reins at the Parc des Princes at the beginning of the season, the Spaniard still believes he displays a style adored by the Catalan club.

Xavi has found form with his Barca team during the second half of the season, but will leave at the end of the season after announcing his desire to leave regardless of what is achieved this year.

The iconic former midfielder won the LaLiga title during his first season in charge, but Enrique has claimed statistics show he is a better option for the Spanish giants.

“Without a doubt it’s me,” Enrique said when asked which style fits best at the Camp Nou.

“It’s not an opinion, look at the statistics, in terms of possession, opportunities, pressure, trophies… Others may have a different opinion, but it’s definitely me. My love story with Barcelona goes back many years, but my profession comes first.’

Xavi and Enrique played together and worked together during the Parisian coach’s previous spell in charge and will meet for the first time as managerial opponents in the midweek tie.

However, the former Spain coach does not believe that any inside knowledge of Xavi is an advantage and warned his PSG players that Barcelona are a “strong” rival.

He continued: ‘I have known him (Xavi) as a teammate, as a player, but not as a coach. I know the club very well, but I don’t know if it will be an advantage.

“I know Barcelona very well and I know the players, but I don’t know if that could be an advantage or not. It could be the opposite.

“The club means a lot to me emotionally because of the experiences I had there, but I am also a professional and I have to think about my job and my team.

“No one can say that this Barcelona team is weak, they are strong. They are doing well forward, they have good players and it is a club with a lot of experience, which has already won five titles. It is not easy, but I feel motivated.”
