Meghan Markle has come under fire for her role in a recent trip to Colombia, with accusations that she is turning Prince Harry into a “grumpy” man. These claims were made by royal editor Matt Wilkinson in an article for The Royal Observer.
Wilkinson criticised the couple’s second unofficial trip, which she called a “fake royal tour”, saying it focused heavily on Meghan. She referred to the trip as the “Meghan Show” and suggested much of the media attention was orchestrated to focus on her.
“A lot of it was about Meghan,” Wilkinson said“The images and the words that were sent to us through the Sussex press office, not just by one reporter from the group… everything was about Meghan.” She further claimed that the entire trip seemed to have been created with Meghan at the centre.
Wilkinson also pointed to photographs from the trip, highlighting how Prince Harry appeared to “pout” at several moments when the focus was on Meghan. She noted that images captured by onlookers who were not part of the press pool presented a different view of the couple’s dynamic.
“And when you saw the footage shot by people at the dinners or people who were there who were not part of this press group, they showed a slightly different picture.” Wilkinson explained“Harry seemed a bit grumpy.”
Wilkinson went on to suggest that Harry’s behaviour during the trip evoked the idea that he was the “spare”, a term famously used in reference to his position as the second prince. “Perhaps he was a bit like ‘the spare’!” Wilkinson concluded.
The comment underscores ongoing criticism surrounding Meghan and Harry’s public appearances, with critics accusing Meghan of overshadowing her husband during their joint engagements.
