Preorders start for Nintendo $ 199 Lite (but it takes two months before you can get hold of it)
- Switch Lite is launching 20 September in three colors: yellow, gray and turquoise
- It is only in the hand, which means that it does not come with a dock and connection to your TV
- But Nintento says it supports all the usual games from the Switch library
Nintendo is now taking pre-orders for the handheld version of its popular Switch console.
The Japanese company unveiled the $ 199 Switch Lite in early July after months of speculation about its plans for a stripped-down version of the system.
It comes in three colors – yellow, gray and turquoise – and features a 5.5-inch screen with Joy-Cons permanently attached to the sides.
The presale is open today on Amazon, BestBuy and a number of other sites, although the Switch Lite will only be officially available on September 20.

Nintendo is shrinking its wildly popular Switch console to launch a cheaper version designed for playing on the move
The console is first released in three solid colors, followed by the limited edition Pokemon Sword and Shield version, scheduled for November 8.
It is sold at Amazon, BestBuy, GameStop, Target and Walmart.
Nintendo has unveiled the latest addition to its Switch family in a video released at the beginning of the month, with a smaller, more robust build that still offers many of the same features of the original.
Just like its predecessor, the Switch Lite can connect wirelessly to other Switch systems for multiplayer gaming and supports online play.
There are, however, a few important differences beyond the size.
Switch Lite comes in three colors when it is officially launched later this year: yellow, gray and turquoise
|Screen size||6.2 inch||5.5 inch|
|TV mode (dock)||Yes||X|
|colors||Gray with matching Joy-Cons |
Gray with red / blue Joy-Cons
|Gray, yellow, turquoise|
|price||$ 299||$ 199|
Switch Lite is only in the hand, meaning it does not come with a dock or HDMI cable, so it cannot connect to your TV.
It also loses the stand from the back of the device.
But even with the tweaks, Nintendo says you can still play all the usual Switch games, although some may have a few limitations.
"Adding Nintendo Switch Lite to the line-up gives gamers more color and pricing options," said Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America.
A limited edition version to be launched in November is light gray with blue and red buttons and has the Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta on the back
"Now consumers can choose the system that best suits how they want to play their favorite Nintendo Switch games."
The portable console will turn yellow, gray and turquoise at the launch on September 20.
A limited version of Pokemon Sword and Shield will be available later in the fall from 8 November.
That version is light gray with blue and red buttons and has the Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta on the back.
