Police are searching for nine men following a wild Australia Day brawl involving up to 50 football fans in Melbourne’s CBD.

Images of the men have been released, and investigators from the North-West Metro regional crime squad in Victoria believe they will assist their investigations.

The fight followed Melbourne Victory against Sydney FC A-League ‘Big Blue’ at AAMI Park on January 26 and took place on Flinders St, near the Batman Ave bridge, at approximately 10.30pm.

Police confirmed that a “large number of people” were involved in the fight, which continued to spill over into nearby Russell Street despite several security guards attempting to intervene.

Several involved in the public brawl appear to have suffered injuries, including two New South Wales men, aged 39 and 38, who were He was treated by paramedics at the scene for significant facial injuries.

Detective Inspector Geoff Owen of the North West Metro Regional Crime Team urged anyone who may have been a victim of the incident to come forward.

‘This type of behavior is simply not okay. “We all know that a split-second decision to be violent can have life-altering consequences,” he stated.

‘That’s why we take this so seriously, to send a clear message to those who believe they can behave this way and get away with it.

‘If you or someone you know was assaulted during the incident, please contact the police.

‘It’s not too late.’

No arrests have been made at this time.
