Two former Pizza Express chefs buy low-cost shopping while seeing opportunities to expand
Two former Pizza Express chefs are buying low-cost shopping because they see the greatest opportunity for expansion in 25 years.
Hugh Osmond, who runs Coppa Club owner Various Eateries, and David Page, who owns Franco Manca and The Real Greek restaurants, have looked at locations that have been emptied by struggling businesses.
Expansion Plans: Hugh Osmond and David Page have looked at locations vacated by struggling companies
Entrepreneur Osmond, who co-founded Pizza Express with Page and Luke Johnson in the recession of the 1990s, said he offered landlords calls last week offering locations that would be closed due to Covid restrictions.
He listed several eateries on the exchange on Friday after raising £ 25 million and will open a new 5,000 square foot Coppa Club in Cobham, Surrey this fall.
He said there are hundreds of other locations available in the main cities, and he plans to eventually open up to 20 restaurants a year.
Page is considering buying the leases for former Byron Burger, Carluccio’s and Le Pain Quotidien stores in London, Bath and Cambridge.
He said, “Rents are all falling by the week.”
