Thrill-seekers calls out Utah – because it is now home to a ‘ladder of heaven’ suspended 122 feet above the ground.

Called the Cave Peak Stairway, it has 120 steps and is 61 meters long. That’s enough, it is said, to make it the longest walkway of its kind in the Northern Hemisphere.

Installed by the luxury resort of Amangiri, the staircase can be accessed via the existing Cave Peak Via Ferrata Trail.

Amangiri said in a statement: ‘Guests will now be invited to ascend the stairs after completing the Via Ferrata and will be rewarded with an incredible panorama from the top.

With an unparalleled vertical climbing route, a spectacular position and a peak visible from the resort, the Cave Peak Via Ferrata – now with the addition of the stairs – is destined to become an iconic and thrilling adventure.

“The installation marks a continuation of Aman’s mission to provide transformative experiences, exclusively for her guests.”

Designed by Adventure Partners Attractions, LLC – a company responsible for installing Via Ferrata routes and installations ‘for many of North America’s premier leisure destinations’ – the construction process required a helicopter to deliver components to the challenging site , with ‘state of the art technical rigging systems’ used to provide access and to install anchors.

Amangiri covers 600 acres of land in Canyon Point and claims ‘breathtaking views over layered rocks and towering mesas to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’.

The resort added: ‘The incredible installation joins an extensive selection of activities on offer at Amangiri, with the resort’s exclusive acreage forming the basis for carefully curated Aman experiences, including several additional Via Ferratas led by expert Guides.

Invented centuries ago in the Italian Alps, a Via Ferrata (“iron road”) is a series of cables and ladder rungs attached to the rock face for climbing steep mountain routes. For guests with varying experience, the routes around the resort each offer a unique adventure.

Designed to challenge and inspire the whole family, the Canyon Crossing Via Ferrata is a fun way to introduce children to the skills required for mixed terrain travel on the Colorado Plateau.

Children six years and older learn the basic technique necessary for a full Via Ferrata as well as rope climbing. The site also includes a replica dinosaur dig, made with castings from real fossils, which refers to the paleontological site at nearby Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Other routes include the Hoodoo Via Ferrata, with a narrow suspension bridge over a deep gorge; the Vertigo Route, which will challenge even the most experienced Via Ferrata enthusiasts; and the Red Line Ridge route, which ascends to the top of Stud Horse Mesa and offers an intense climb. ‘
