Pictured: Son charged with domestic violence murder of his own mother

Callan Davidson, 29, was charged with murder (domestic violence) in the death of his mother on Friday.

A man accused of murdering his mother has been pictured for the first time after her body was found in a rural caravan park.

Callan Davidson, 29, was charged with murder on Friday after emergency services were called to a property on Henry Street, in Gunnedah, in central north New South Wales, about 8.20am

Police found his mother, Cheryl Davidson, aged in her 50s, seriously injured in a nearby tent before dying at the scene.

Officers also found a man allegedly covered in blood.

Davidson, whose address is listed as Gunnedah Tourist Caravan Park, was later arrested before being taken to Gunnedah Police Station.

He refused to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday and his matter has since been adjourned to Tamworth Local Court on Monday.

It is understood a court order was issued informing NSW Justice Health that Davidson must be assessed on mental health grounds, The Daily Telegraph information.

Police set up a crime scene yesterday morning and a knife was found nearby before it was confiscated. A forensic examination of the crime scene will be carried out.

Earlier, NSW Police Chief Inspector Michael Wurth described the scene as “traumatic”.

Detective Chief Inspector Wurth said officers felt a sense of urgency when they saw the man allegedly bloodied.

He also revealed that the couple are local residents of Gunnedah.

“We believe the man resided at the trailer park for about two weeks, but the other person…lives in a separate home.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner’s information.
