Phil Foden will return to the England training ground tonight after attending the birth of his third baby.

The Football Association confirmed on Wednesday that the Manchester City star had returned to the UK due to an “urgent family matter”.

Foden boarded a plane back to England immediately after Tuesday’s draw against Slovenia to be with his family.

The attacker’s partner, Rebecca Cooke, has had a baby and Foden will return to Germany on Thursday night in the hope of being able to train in some capacity at the team’s base in Weimar on Friday.

In April this year it was revealed that Cooke, 24, and Cooke, 22, were expecting their third child. The family posed in front of a blue and white balloon arch that had eye-catching LED letters spelling out “Baby Foden.”

The family celebrated their exciting news with a lavish baby shower and shared photos of the celebrations online.

An FA spokesperson said: Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for an urgent family matter.

Cooke and Foden share a son, Ronnie, five, and a daughter, True, who turned one earlier this year.

Ronnie, who has her own Instagram account with four million followers and run by her parents, shared a glimpse of the baby shower celebrations on her social media account.

The post read: “Had an amazing day with the most amazing people.”

After finishing first in their group, England faced Slovakia in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. If England advances, they will face the winner of Switzerland’s round of 16 clash against Italy.

Foden and Cooke are childhood sweethearts and reportedly met at a party when they were teenagers and have been together ever since.

The couple, who hail from Stockport in Greater Manchester, largely keep their relationship out of the public eye, with Cooke keeping his social media accounts private.

The couple welcomed their son Ronnie into the world in 2019, and Foden, who was 18 at the time of his son’s birth, had previously spoken about the transition to becoming a father to his young son Ronnie.

The couple have been childhood sweethearts and already have a son, Ronnie, and a daughter, True, together.

“I was there for the birth. I left the room, gave him a little tear and then came back in as if nothing had happened,” he said during an interview with Manchester City.

‘I’m not one of those who cry in front of people. I like to be alone, but I was there in the room, I saw what happened and it was a special moment.

‘Your life changes. There’s no free time, and that’s probably why I find it so hard to fish.

‘I have enjoyed every moment. To be honest, she’s been pretty good. He hasn’t made it difficult for me, which is good.

‘Sleep until 7 in the morning. I haven’t really had to get up in the middle of the night, so I’ve been able to sleep well.’

Foden is the youngest professional footballer to win six Premier League titles after helping Pep Guardiola’s side to their fourth consecutive trophy earlier this season.

He was also named Premier League Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year for his outstanding performances for Manchester City during the 2023-24 campaign.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo is looking to earn his first start at Euro 2024 against Slovakia on Sunday.

The Manchester United star has come on as a substitute in two of England’s three group games and was particularly impressive in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

Mainoo replaced Conor Gallagher on the night, and the youngster is a strong contender to play in Sunday’s round of 16 tie.

If he plays, Mainoo is expected to do so alongside Declan Rice, despite the England midfield lynchpin missing training on Thursday.

Rice, who has played in 62 games since the start of the season, was rested and is expected to return to full training on Friday.

Kieran Trippier, who returned from a calf problem on the final day of the domestic season, also missed Thursday’s training due to “load management”.
