Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire says the PFL has granted him an “unconditional release” after publicly criticizing the MMA promotion.

Pitbull, 37, attacked the PFL on social media on Tuesday after the PFL would be ending the Bellator brand.

The Brazilian was one of Bellator’s main stars before merged with the PFL at the end of 2023.

PFL president Donn Davis initially announced Pitbull’s release before the two-weight Bellator champion insisted they retained their right to match any deal another promotion offered him.

Pitbull then posted on X that he had been informed that the release would be “unconditional.”

“I’ll be waiting for the corrected release letter,” Pitbull said.

Pitbull’s release comes during a hectic 24 hours for the PFL, as they announced that Bellator would be discontinued and that all fighters would now compete under the PFL brand.

The announcement came shortly after Pitbull began posting on X, complaining about being hindered after his request for release last December and the PFL is reportedly attempting to renegotiate fighters’ contracts.

The PFL is expected to announce further changes to its season format this week.
