A new music festival that started selling tickets just five days ago has suddenly been cancelled.
Promise Village will host international artists Jorja Smith, J Hus and Headie One at Perth’s Langley Park on October 12.
However, a message from ticket seller Megatix on Wednesday informed disappointed festival-goers that the event had been cancelled.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Promise Village will no longer be held on October 12, 2024,” the message read.
‘Refunds have been processed automatically, so no action is required.
‘Please allow up to five business days for funds to reach the account used for the purchase.’
Promise Village, presented by Triple J, had more than 5,000 people registered for the pre-sale, which began five days ago.
General ticket sales opened on Monday.
Promise Village, which was due to arrive in Perth on October 12, was cancelled on Wednesday after general sale tickets opened on Monday.
The sudden cancellation came after just two weeks ago it was promised that the festival would offer a “programme that would include some global superstars”.
“Promise Village is now officially underway. The lineup includes some global superstars,” the organisers announced.
Promise Village co-founder Emal Naim blamed the cancellation on poor ticket sales and local government support.
“Unfortunately it didn’t meet initial expectations and there wasn’t much support to sustain the costs; it just wasn’t feasible anymore,” he told Perth Now.
“We have made the decision not to return to Perth for an indefinite period. We are scared,” he said.
Disappointed fans are now demanding answers.
“Just hide all posts and act like nothing happened, classic,” one commented.
Another asked: ‘Will they release a statement explaining the reason for the cancellation?’

The news comes after the cancellation of several of Australia’s biggest festivals this year alone.
Splendour in the Grass at the Caloundra Music Festival on the Sunshine Coast in northern New South Wales, Victoria’s Coastal Jam and Adelaide’s Vintage Vibes Festival have all been cancelled due to financial constraints.
The New South Wales parliament has launched an inquiry into the festival industry to understand the challenges faced by organisers.
