Paul Pogba wanted Manchester United to realise they’d made a MISTAKE over contract

Paul Pogba wanted Manchester United to realize they had made a ‘mistake’ by not offering him a lucrative new contract sooner, as a new documentary exposes the midfielder’s broken relationship with the Old Trafford club.

The France international will return to Juventus after his contract with United expired and it turned out he turned down an offer of £300,000 a week as ‘nothing’.

His comments, made during a conversation with his agent, the late Mino Raiola, have surfaced in a new Amazon documentary about the player.

Pogba first approached United about the possibility of an extended contract in the summer of 2019, but it took the club some time to put their offer on the table.

It came up in a preview for The Pogmentary that the player turned down two offers of more than his existing £290,000 a week at United and wanted to punish the club for keeping him waiting.

Speaking to Raiola while driving a Rolls-Royce in Miami, Pogba asks: ‘Has Manchester made a second offer?’

‘Yes,’ answers Raiola, who passed away in April. “They definitely want you to stay. To me, the offer doesn’t reflect that. I said to them, ‘If you want him to stay, don’t make that offer’.

“I’ll make it clear to them that if they really want you to stay and they want to build a project around you, they should act differently this time and put the money on the table.”

Pogba responds, “They’re bluffing. How can you tell a player that you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen.

“Playing is all that matters, winning is too. My thinking is to show Manchester that they should not have waited so long to offer a contract and to show other clubs that Manchester made a mistake by not offering a contract.”

In another installment of the new documentary series, Raiola talks about the contrast between the Pogba who underperformed for United and the player who won the 2018 World Cup with France.

The agent says: ‘You are different with the national team. You’re a different Pogba at the national team and at Manchester. It is not normal.

“The French team is getting the real Pogba – the Pogba from Juventus, the Pogba we all love.

“At Manchester there is something that blocks you. I find it very stressful.’

And in a clip from Pogba last summer, he talks about how United made him feel insignificant compared to his position in the French line-up.

He says: ‘Players should feel important in their clubs. And they need to feel important in their teams. If you don’t, it’s over.

“I came back from injury, they didn’t help me, they didn’t care how I felt.

“So I had to go to the national team to regain my confidence.”

Pogba returns to Juventus for a second time after six seasons at Old Trafford

Pogba returns to Juventus for a second time after six seasons at Old Trafford

After six disappointing years during a second stint at United, Pogba returns to Juventus, the club where he enjoyed great success between 2012 and 2016.

Those performances convinced United to break the world transfer record by signing him for £89 million and Pogba helped Jose Mourinho’s side win the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League – the club’s last silverware – in his debut season.

But despite playing 226 games and scoring 39 goals over six seasons at United, Pogba failed to consistently show his best form in midfield.

Sportsmail revealed that Pogba cost the club nearly £1million per game during his six-year return to Old Trafford and will receive a £3.78million loyalty bonus when he officially leaves on June 30.

It led to Old Trafford legend Gary Neville saying that Pogba’s manner of leaving ‘left a bad taste in my mouth’.

He said in a TikTok chat: “I don’t mind Pogba’s comments to be honest. I think once a player has left, he can say whatever he wants. Fine, no problem.

“But I don’t think he has performed well in the last six years. I don’t think the club performed well with him or handled him well either.

“It’s been a partnership that, to be fair, has failed on both sides, so that’s what you’d have to say about that.

There is no winner if a player leaves after six years with the money spent and very little won.

“The player leaves dissatisfied and the club is also dissatisfied. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it’s the second time it happens.

“You wish him all the best for the future at Juventus.”
