Paul Gascoigne was back in the thick of it on Sunday after returning to the Italian version of I’m A Celebrity in an armrest after dislocating his shoulder.

The football legend, 53, had to spend a week in hospital after sustaining a shoulder injury during an endurance match on the reality show and looked excited to be back in the woods to continue filming the series.

But the harsh realities of life on land soon swept around him as he looked up a questionable mattress before falling to the floor.

Paul slept awkwardly with his arm wrapped, trying to get some rest.

He was later seen spitting something into a bucket while chatting with co-star Awed – Simone Paciello.

The day before, he couldn’t contain his emotion when he returned to tears on Thursday’s episode, saying he missed the other contestants “ more than anything in the world. ”

Paul now sleeps in a real bed rather than on the sandy ground like his camp mates, and he will no longer participate in trials, said The mirror

Doctors have instructed Gazza to follow specific rules to aid his recovery.

In honor of his comeback, the contestants gathered at the main campground on Day 19 of the show to chat with the footballer.

The sports icon, famously wept after England lost to West Germany at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Turin, was seen adjusting his armrest on the island off Hondura.

Youtuber Simone Paciello put his hand on Paul’s neck compassionately as they caught up to him.

Meanwhile, Daniela Martan smiled affectionately at the footballer wearing a two-tone swimsuit.

Paul immediately turned to island life as he walked around the campground before changing into a relaxed shirt.

Ahead of his return earlier this week, Paul revealed that despite his misfortune, he would be willing to return to the program.

The former Lazio star said he is “ pretty good, ” adding that his shoulder is “ so, so, ” as the show’s host Ilary Blasi asked for updates on his health.

Another episode last week showed Paul gripping his arm in pain after completing a stampede with his fellow islanders.

He later appeared in good spirits when he joked that the doctors spoke better English than the show’s host, Ilary.

Paul also said he will be dating footballer and Ilary’s husband, Francesco Totti, once the show is over.

According to The sun, producers of the series recently got together to discuss whether Paul was fit enough to continue with the show.

He was flown to hospital for an emergency check-up after sustaining his injury, which forced him to temporarily withdraw from filming.

A friend of Paul’s told the publication: ‘He dislocated his shoulder. It’s such a shame because he did so well.

He’s resting while the medical team checks him. The producers are very concerned. He can be withdrawn. There are also insurance issues to consider. ‘

MailOnline reached out to a representative for Paul at the time for comment, but they have yet to respond.
