Patrick and Brittany Mahomes went wild in the CPKC Stadium crowd on Saturday as the Kansas City Current opened their NWSL season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Portland Thorns.

It was the grand opening of the stadium, which was built exclusively for the Current, and team investors Patrick and Brittany were in the stands after becoming involved with the club last year.

The pair could be seen jumping up and down as the home team eventually built a 5-1 lead.

The home team’s fifth and final goal came through debutant Alex Pfeiffer, 16, who fired a left-footed shot in the 68th minute.

From there, things got tough as Portland cut the lead to 5-4, but KC held on for the win in their new stadium.

US women’s national team star Sophia Smith finished the match with two goals for the visitors.

Before the start, Patrick and Brittany received a microphone and addressed the crowd.

“This is history, this is incredible, and for you to show up for these women and your own stadium is incredible,” Brittany said.

Patrick, meanwhile, led a ‘Go KC, baby!’ sings to irritate the crowd.

Built at a cost of nearly $120 million on the banks of the Missouri River, CPKC Stadium represents one of the few facilities in the world that has been built expressly for the use of female athletes.

The stadium has a capacity of 11,000 seats and tickets have been sold out for months.

Demand for single-game seats is so strong that some fans are already wondering when the stadium will be expanded. It was designed so that seating could be added in the future.
