A heroic 16-year-old from Georgia drowns on spring break after rushing into a rip current to save four young children being pulled out to sea.
Bryce Brooks was enjoying his vacation off the coast of Pensacola, Florida, on April 6 when he saw a group of kids caught in a rippling wave.
Despite not knowing them, Brooks immediately jumped into action, swimming in the strong current and rescuing the children before it got swept away.
His grieving father, Chevy Brooks, said his son asked for help to get the children to safety.
Charles Johnson, a matriarch and father of three, witnessed Brooks’ failure to surface and rushed to save him before he too drowned.
On the day her son died, Crystal Brooks, the teen’s mother, said, “he entered his manhood to save these children.”
This makes me proud. It doesn’t take away an iota of pain, but it makes me proud of our son.

Price was one of three teens who rushed to the children’s aid while three others ran to report the incident to adults.
The other two young men, who have not been identified, escaped from the water while searchers struggled to find the bodies of Price and Charles.
Their bodies were later recovered and flown to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The teen’s family said he died of cardiac arrest, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The four children have not been identified.
There were no lifeguards at the time of the accident although there were yellow flags – warning of moderate currents – around the sandy beach.
‘Being selfless,’ said father of teenager Chevy, ‘our son Bryce, while being pulled by the currents himself, literally asked for help, not for himself, but for the little children he was looking out for. at a press conference.
“Bryce is a hero. He literally saved four children’s lives on his own account.
The teen was an honor student at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta, Georgia where he was also a member of the costume club and played the piano.
His grieving mother was proud of who he was and grieved at not being able to watch his life take a toll.
“We’re not going to see Bryce grow up and be the full man he was going to be,” said Crystal Brooks.
The brave Charles Johnson, who died alongside Price, was survived by his three sons, Brandon, Price, and Braelyn, and his wife, Lynn.
Charles was a basketball coach who dedicated his time to being a mentor to children at the Georgia organization, Healthy Lifestyles Healthy Kids.

The family wants to honor Price’s memory by offering free swimming lessons to every child in Atlanta. They also want to create a scholarship for those at Price High School to become certified lifeguards.
a GoFundMe account It was set up to raise money for the Brooks family and Bryce’s funeral expenses state that he was a “selfless young man full of lifelong passion and love”.
“Price’s actions helped save many lives,” says the GoFundMe. As of Tuesday, more than $77,000 has been raised.
Many people may remember the Price family and the Brooks family from the Netflix show, “Instant Dream Home.” The episode aired in the year 2022 and showed a crew renovating their home in Atlanta.
