One of the most popular athletes on Team USA’s Paris Olympics team is taking his talents from the pommel horse to the dance floor.
Two-time Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik was recently announced as the first contestant on season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars.” The announcement was made Thursday morning on “Good Morning America.”
The 25-year-old was a pommel horse specialist for the U.S. men’s gymnastics team and won two bronze medals during the Games.
Her first win came in the team event, where Nedoroscik’s performance helped Team USA to third place and its first Olympic medal in 16 years.
The second medal came during the individual pommel horse competition. Nedoroscik’s bronze medal in that event made him the first American to win an individual medal in eight years.
Nedoroscik has been training for the Olympics for years and hopes to bring some of those skills to the dance floor as well.
“I want to do some gymnastics, maybe a backflip or a handstand,” Nedoroscik said on GMA. “I want to have fun with it.”
In addition to being known for his skills with the pommel, Nedoroscik also became known for his signature style with his glasses and how he does a “Clark Kent” when he takes them off before going into action.
When asked about her plans for her glasses while dancing, Nedoroscik said she might try something a little different.
“I could have fun with that, but I’m afraid they’ll fly away… maybe we could make a device to keep them from flying away,” she said. “Maybe a new pair of glasses, to match the theme, right?”
