Perhaps the Crystal Palace DJ’s decision to play McFadden & Whitehead’s Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now full-time was a little premature. After all, Oliver Glasner’s reign is still in its infancy.
But on an afternoon when there seemed to be new life at Selhurst Park, the first signs were that Glasner had rhythm after the Austrian’s first game as Palace boss ended in a 3-0 victory over Burnley.
The 49-year-old has only been on the training ground with his new players for three days, but already appears to have taken off the handbrake.
The shift to 3-4-3 began at Everton during last Monday’s draw under interim manager Paddy McCarthy and has continued here. In possession, that allowed Palace to switch to a 3-2-5 with full-backs Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Muñoz flying down the flanks to stretch Burnley’s defence.
The difference was clear as day. Palace have averaged 11 shots per game this season. On Saturday they had 15.
Oliver Glasner got off to the perfect start at Crystal Palace with a 3-0 win over Burnley.
Palace looked much more positive as they took a convincing victory at Selhurst Park.

“We demanded more runs behind Burnley’s defensive line,” Glasner said. ‘We played it to our full-backs and then JP (Jean-Philippe Mateta) attacked the space behind. This is what maybe they haven’t done as often before, so it was nice to see.”
Burnley were a tough nut to crack, especially after Josh Brownhill’s red card in the 35th minute for bringing down Jefferson Lerma after a poor pass from goalkeeper James Trafford.
The same old problem – a lack of cutting edge – looked like it could be Palace’s Achilles heel again. But, in the 68th minute, Jordan Ayew crossed for Chris Richards, who headed in his first goal for the club and the first of the Glasner era.
That goal broke Burnley’s spirit. Ayew doubled his lead before Mateta made it three from the penalty spot.
