Australia’s richest person has hand-delivered meat pies to Liberal voters in a fringe seat “seriously threatened” by a popular Teal candidate.
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart was seen getting out of a white SUV in Ryde on Sydney’s North Shore holding a large white box on Saturday afternoon.
The Western Australian billionaire handed out meat pies to Liberal voters in support of Lane Cove MP and personal friend Anthony Roberts.
It’s not the first time the politician has received cakes from the mining magnate, having received a care package from Ms Rinehart during the Covid lockdown.

The billionaire sent the Planning Minister a box of artisan cakes from Adelaide after learning the politician was in isolation.
‘Gina sent me a care package. I had a box of Kidman Pies sent to me from Adelaide,” Roberts told the Sunday Telegraph at the time.
There was enough here to last me to the end.
However, not everyone welcomed the billionaire into Ryde’s voting booths.
“Ok not much wow with #auspol anymore but I heard Gina Rinehart showed up in a few places around Lane Cove handing out meat pies to liberal people in support of Anthony Roberts,” one woman tweeted.
They must be very worried. Extraordinary.’
It comes as Roberts goes head-to-head with popular independent candidate Victoria Davidson over Ryde’s headquarters on Sydney’s North Shore.
More to come.
