Whether it’s while working from home or checking your emails on the train, there are often times when we wish our laptop screen had more space.
But the days of desperation over a lack of a second screen could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to Lenovo’s latest invention.
The tech giant has unveiled a laptop with a retractable screen at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023.
At the touch of a button, the 12.7-inch screen changes to a 15.3-inch screen in just 10 seconds.
While the futuristic device is on display at MWC in Barcelona, it’s a very early proof of concept and unlikely to be released to the public for some time yet.

MWC, the world’s largest trade fair for the telecom industry, returned to Barcelona this week to unveil the latest smartphone technology.
Tens of thousands of attendees turned up for the first day to see what the biggest brands have in store for the future, from 6G to the Metaverse.
Daily Mail Technology Editor Jim Norton visited Lenovo’s booth to see the retractable laptop screen in action.
The screen has a discreet button on the side, which allows users to extend their screen quickly and easily.
Lenovo believes the slide-out screen would be useful both for office workers who want to see more cells in a spreadsheet and for web designers who want more room for lines of code.
The goal is to make it durable enough to extend its lifecycle between 20,000 and 30,000 times, though it wouldn’t provide further details on weight or battery life.
The company also unveiled a smartphone that expands – contrary to the current trend among other major brands to have foldable phones to enlarge the screen.
The demo version grows vertically from a 5-inch screen to 6.5 inches.
Also on display at MWC was the Nubia 3D pad – a £900 tablet that can bring movies, games and even Zoom meetings to life by displaying them all in 3D.
Two AI cameras above the screen follow the user’s eyes as they look at the screen, giving the screen a 3D look wherever you look.
The 12.4-inch device, which will launch worldwide next month, can show movies and games in 3D, while also working on Zoom.
It can also convert 2D photos and videos into 3D, allowing users to look at products, such as the latest shoes, as if they were in front of them.
The Chinese technology company Nubia, which is owned by ZTE, has equipped the device with a 2.5k screen and four symmetrical speakers that support Dolby Surround Sound.
