- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defended President Biden, 81, against growing criticism over his age and mental acuity.
- Last week’s Justice Department report called the president an “old man with a bad memory.”
- AOC still says Trump, with his 91 accusations, is even worse than Biden
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) defended President Joe Biden, 81, amid a flurry of criticism that questioned his mental acuity and fitness for a second term.
Biden’s own Justice Department released a report last week following a special counsel investigation into the president’s classified documents case. He acknowledged Biden’s “significantly limited” memory and noted that he has “diminished faculties.”
Despite this, AOC still says Biden is better suited for the job than former President Donald Trump, who faces 91 felony charges in four different cases.
The progressive lawmaker insisted that Biden has accomplished more than most presidents in recent times.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) defended President Joe Biden against intense criticism over his age and mental acuity following the release of a Justice Department report that labeled him an “old man with a poor memory.”
“I know who I’m going to pick (for president): He’s going to be one of the most successful presidents in modern American history,” AOC said of Biden. Pictured: Biden and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez speak at the White House on April 6, 2022.
“I know who I’m going to pick (for president): He’s going to be one of the most successful presidents in modern American history,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with CNN host Jake Tapper on Tuesday.
He added: “(He) approved the reduction in inflation that the American Rescue Plan gave us that ensured that we could approve one of the largest federal investments in climate change in American history.”
Special counsel Robert Hur’s report has confirmed concerns many have expressed over the past year as Biden leads his re-election campaign and is on track for a rematch with Trump in 2024.
Hur did not recommend charges against Biden in the classified documents case, citing as one of his reasons that the president would appear to a jury “as a sympathetic, well-intentioned old man with a bad memory.”
A poll released Sunday finds that 86 percent of voters believe Biden is too old to serve another term. And 62 percent feel the same about Trump, 77.
“I think right now, when it comes to the president’s age, people are talking about him being 81 years old,” AOC told CNN. ‘But first we must consider that Donald Trump is about the same age. They could have gone to high school together.
“And beyond that, Donald Trump has 91 indictments,” he added.
“President Biden will be the Democratic nominee and will hopefully be re-elected as president of the United States.”
A poll released after the report was released last week shows that 86% of American voters think Biden is too old for another term, and only 62% feel the same about Trump.
AOC said of Biden: “People talk about him being 81… Donald Trump is about the same age.” They could have gone to high school together. And beyond that, Donald Trump has 91 indictments.
