The family of a young football player fighting for his life after a terrible car accident have been by their loved one’s side in hospital day and night.
Tyler Rowe, 18, was in a Toyota Hilux pickup truck when it crashed, overturned and slammed into a Jeep travelling in the opposite direction on Farrington Road in North Lake, south of Perth, at about 11.40pm on June 13.
Mr Rowe was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition along with two other passengers, aged 17 and 18, and the 17-year-old driver, who suffered a variety of injuries.
The young footballer’s teammate at South Fremantle Football Club, Nick Campo, 18, died in the accident.
The group was celebrating Mr. Campo’s birthday, as the young man turned 18 just two days before the fatal incident.
A friend of the Rowe family, Dijana Triscari, started a GoFundMe on Sunday to help pay the young man’s medical bills while he remained “in critical condition in the ICU.”
Ms Triscari said Mr Rowe’s family “have been by his side day and night”.
GoFundMe has raised over $44,000 in less than a day since its launch.
Rowe (pictured) and four of his friends were celebrating Campo’s 18th birthday when the Toyota Hilux they were travelling in crashed, overturned and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Hundreds of people turned out as the Colts took the field on Saturday to honor Mr. Campo.
The team came face to face with their opponents, the Subiaco Lions, before the game to observe a minute’s silence as the stadium scoreboard read ‘RIP Nick Campo’.
The 17-year-old driver of the Hilux appeared in Perth Youth Court last Monday from his hospital bed and was charged with multiple dangerous driving offences.
Campo’s father told 7News his family is not angry with the driver accused of causing the crash and wants the heartbreaking incident to serve as a reminder about road safety.
A friend of Mr Campo, who attended a vigil at the crash site, said: “Nick was one of a kind. He was loved by so many people.”
“He had a big heart and was very funny. No matter what situation he found himself in, he could always crack a joke,” said another.

Aquinas College Principal Robert Henderson shared his condolences for the student.
“There are no adequate words to express our grief and sympathy for the loss of this wonderful young man,” he said.
The accused who was driving the vehicle was granted bail on condition that he does not drive any motor vehicle. He will appear in court again in September.
