Nick Jonas criticized his fans for overreacting to his tweet to tech billionaire Elon Musk

Nick Jonas has criticized fans for overreacting to his tweet at tech billionaire Elon Musk, with insiders claiming he thought it was a “funny, drama-free post.”

On Tuesday, the singer, 32, interacted with the SpaceX mogul, 53, on his platform

Sources close to Nick have now exclusively told DailyMail.com that while he did not intend to show support for Elon by making the post, he will not be removing it.

They added that he too is “over” the consequences and has much more important things to worry about.

The source said: “Nick is not going to back down on his post about Elon Musk, nor will he double down and he has no plans to delete it.”

“He thinks a lot of people are overreacting a little bit in the way they’re reacting to all of this, but there’s nothing he can do about it except let it all die down.”

“For Nick, there are much more important things to worry about than dealing with online trolls for what he thought was a fun, drama-free post.”

They continued: ‘Support or not, Nick was trying to be smart by making some kind of statement or announcement of support, but on the Internet, you can’t do anything without being attacked.

“This will pass and Nick has already moved on from any controversy this has generated in any way.”

DailyMail.com has contacted Nick’s representative for comment.

It all started when Elon responded to an article from Tesla owners Silicon Valley, which claimed that Tesla’s profits have “increased 100 percent” since President-elect Donald Trump won the election last month.

Reacting to the post, Elon posted an old GIF of the Jonas Brothers circling a small wooden coffee table.

‘Wow, how the tables have turned!’ wrote next to him.

Shortly after, Nick tweeted Elon’s post with a reference to his brothers’ cover of Busted’s hit Year 3000.

The billionaire had been celebrating Tesla's rising profits after the election.

But Nick’s response hasn’t sat well with fans, and many are disappointed by the interaction.

Some even threatened to shun the musician and his brothers, Joe, 35, and Kevin, 37, ahead of their 20th anniversary tour next year.

Addressing X, one criticized: ’20th anniversary tour but I just can’t support this.’

“Yeah, I’ll save my money on the next tour, thanks,” wrote another.

A third promised: ‘By the way, we’re not leaving this behind. Being noticeably quiet throughout the entire election cycle and then tweeting something like this?

“I’ve been a fan since 2005 and I really wanted to do a 20th anniversary tour, but I can’t support this.”

On Monday, it was announced that Elon topped the world’s rich list once again after his wealth soared by more than $200 billion this year.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index reported that he has now amassed a net worth of $455 billion, an increase fueled by a nearly 71 percent rise in Tesla shares following the US election.

Elon is the automaker’s largest shareholder with about a 13 percent stake in the company.

His net worth was also boosted by an insider stock sale in SpaceX, which he runs.

Last week it was reported that the rocket company and its investors agreed to buy up to $1.25 billion of its common stock.
