The new New Orleans Saint, quarterback Spencer Rattler, was only available for the team’s selection in the fifth round of the NFL Draft because the team’s general managers reportedly hated him on the Netflix reality show ‘QB1 : Beyond the Lights’.

The former Oklahoma and South Carolina star was chosen 150th overall, ending the longest streak in NFL Draft history without a quarterback being selected, as 137 players were selected among Rattler and now Bronco Bo Nix.

Before his college days, Rattler was one of the best players in the country as part of the 2019 recruiting class, and was the highest-rated pro-style quarterback, according to 247Sports.

That generated a lot of attention, including from Netflix. At Pinnacle (Arizona) High School, Rattler had a reputation as the best player in the state.

And after Rattler found a home with the Saints, clips of him reaming his wide receivers during a high school practice resurfaced.

‘This is a little strange to say honestly, Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school. It’s called “QB1: Beyond the Lights.” “He didn’t make it look very good,” said NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“And it’s amazing how many different teams mentioned the image of him on that show to me, and how they can’t get it out of their heads, which I think would be a public service announcement for all 17-year-olds,” Rapoport. continued. “It’s fascinating how teams evaluate whether to draft him or not.”

Rattler appeared on the third season of ‘QB1: Beyond The Lights’ alongside Lance Legendre, who later moved to wide receiver and plays at Louisiana, and Nik Scalzo, who played at Samford at the FCS level last year.

The show lasted four seasons with Justin Fields as arguably the biggest star to ever appear as a prep prospect.

Bruce Young and Anthony Richardson also appeared on the show during their high school days.

Rattler was once viewed as a potential pick to be the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. He was supplanted by eventual No. 1 pick Caleb Williams at Oklahoma, and had a rocky career after transferring to South Carolina that plummeted his draft stock.
