Bryan Gillis was injured after arresting Scottie Scheffler

New photos have emerged of the minor injuries suffered by the Louisville police detective who arrested Scottie Scheffler at Valhalla Golf Club last month.

Scheffler was arrested on his way to the PGA Championship after allegedly ignoring instructions to stop his vehicle and injuring Detective Bryan Gillis in the process.

Three weeks after the incident, and just over a week since all four criminal charges against the world’s number one golfer were dropped, footage shows the extent of the injuries suffered by Gillis that day.

Minor cuts can be seen on the detective’s knee and wrist, while his $80 pants, as he claimed in his police citation, are also significantly torn.

Fans quickly took to social media to claim that the injuries were not serious enough to justify the drama that unfolded that morning in Valhalla, with one sarcastically writing: “Could you please provide a content warning by posting images so graphics?”

Another joked: “Damn, I hope he makes a full recovery…”

A third said: “I’ve seen worse when my 10-year-old son fell off his bike.”

While a fourth asked about the torn trousers: ‘Is that “destroyed beyond repair”?’

Scheffler had faced four charges, including second-degree assault on a police officer, after allegedly speeding away in his car when officers told him to stop in Louisville.

The two-time Masters champion was accused of dragging Gillis to the ground in the process, before being arrested and jailed in a local jail in a shocking series of events.

Last week, however, Scheffler was cleared of all charges after the Jefferson County prosecutor’s office filed a motion to dismiss the case, admitting that his claim that it was simply a huge misunderstanding is now “corroborated for the evidence.”

In light of that outcome, Gillis issued a statement praising the golf star for agreeing to move on from the incident while also paying tribute to the family of John Mills, the 69-year-old man who was hit by a bus and died outside. Valhalla that same morning.

“A tragic incident occurred, and Mr. Mills’ family remains in my family’s thoughts and prayers,” he said of the fatal collision, which caused the traffic jam that led to Scheffler’s arrest. ‘This was a chaotic situation for everyone involved. Ensuring the safety of everyone in the surrounding area was my top priority.

‘Mister. Scheffler and I agree that there will be no hard feelings about this in the future. Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility and respect. My family and I appreciate it.”

However, Gillis lashed out at Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, for alleging that his client could file his own lawsuit after being “falsely arrested” on the morning in question.

“The more evidence that comes out, the more it shows that Scottie was a victim here,” Romines said after the charges were dropped. “And I think everyone sees something like this happen and realizes they’re one wrong step away… from going to jail.”

Scheffler’s legal representative also claimed that the agents “tried to put words” in his client’s mouth outside of Valhalla. But Gillis has furiously denied those allegations, calling them “unfortunate and disturbing,” as he has doubled down on his version of events.

“It was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Romines’ comment today stating that a ‘false arrest’ was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity,” the detective continued. “I would be surprised and disappointed if Mr. Scheffler had any role in those statements.

“To be clear, I was dragged by the car, fell to the ground and suffered visible injuries to my knees and wrists. I’m going to recover and everything will be fine. That’s the end of my comment on the incident.

‘The reality is that there are more important things in the world right now than a tug-of-war over this. One person lost their life that day and a family lost a loved one.

‘At the end of the day, I am proud to work for the people of the community to keep them safe. I’ve spent two decades trying to protect this city during difficult times. And I would like to continue doing it without the distractions caused by this series of events.

“I wish Scottie Scheffler and his family all the best.”

Gillis also joked about his police pants, adding: ‘PS… Yeah, the department makes us buy $80 pants. For those interested, they were actually broke. But Scottie, everything’s fine.

‘I never would have imagined I would have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this. Take care and stay safe.’
