New Mexico Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s wild youth has come to light after newly uncovered police reports show he used a racial slur to harass former colleagues after he was fired from a company.
In July 2004, Vasquez, who was a college student at the time, called a human resources employee at a call center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Vásquez asked the center to speak to ‘Chris’, and when the employee asked which Chris he was referring to, Vásquez responded ‘Chris, the black one.’
The employee hung up, but Vásquez called again. The second time he asked to speak to ‘Chris the black man’, he laughed and hung up.
The employee traced the number to Vasquez, who had been “terminated for cause for falsifying data.”

The employee called again and left a message for Vasquez notifying him that she intended to report him to the police.
Vasquez’s name is redacted from reports obtained by DailyMail.com, but a custodian confirmed to the Free beaconwho was the first to report the news, that Vásquez was the one calling.
Vasquez told DailyMail.com in a statement: “I have not and would never use language like this, this attack is categorically false.” “This is another example of how desperate Republicans lie about my character instead of focusing on delivering for New Mexico.”

That wasn’t Vasquez’s only run-in with police during his time at New Mexico State University, which he attended from 2002 to 2008.
Police cited him twice in 2005 for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
In one case, officers arrived at Vasquez’s residence due to a complaint about loud music and found him witnessing him cutting up marijuana and rolling it into a joint. In another, officers patrolling on bicycles found Vásquez and his underage friends drunk and reeking of marijuana in a car. Vasquez handed marijuana to the officers.
All police records say the cases were “suspended” and there is no indication that further action was taken against Vasquez.

Just two months ago, police executed an arrest warrant for Vasquez for failing to appear in court when he was 18 after being charged in El Paso, Texas, with driving without a license and without insurance.
Police issued an arrest warrant for him in April 2008 after he failed to appear in court in 2002. Texas police executed that warrant on March 19, and Vasquez posted $900 cash bail and pleaded no contest, according to Free Beacon.
Twice police were involved in domestic incidents when Vasquez and his ex-girlfriend were fighting. Vásquez was born in El Paso, Texas and grew up in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. He was elected to Congress in 2022 when he defeated Republican incumbent Yvette Herrell.
