Jacque Vaughn has been fired as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced Monday. He is expected to name an interim coach before the team returns from the All-Star break Thursday in Toronto.

The former NBA point guard was in his second season as head coach of the Nets, who are in 11th place with a 21-33 record.

Vaughn was promoted from assistant coach after Steve Nash was fired in 2022.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but we believe it is in the best interest of the team moving forward,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said.

‘Jacque has represented this organization with exemplary character and class for the past eight years. The constant positivity and passion he poured into our team on a daily basis will remain with the players and staff he interacted with during his tenure. We thank Jacque for everything he has done for the Nets and the borough of Brooklyn, and we wish him, Laura, and his family the best in the future.”
