The film’s synopsis reads: “When Tony Lip, a doorman in an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to take Dr. Don Shirley, a world-famous black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on ‘The Green Book’ to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African Americans.

‘Faced with racism, danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humor, they are forced to put aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

‘The movie [is] inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line.’

At the 2019 Oscars, Green Book beat Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born to win Best Picture.

Mahershala Ali was also recognized for his portrayal of Dr. Don Shirley, which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award.

After watching it for the first time upon its arrival on Netflix, fans rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to express their love for the film.

One fan wrote: ‘Has anyone else seen the Green Book yet? For me 10/10’.

A second left a glowing review, commenting: “I watched the Green Book on Netflix.” Really good watch.’
