Harsh social media trolls have turned on Australian influencer Olivia Mathers (pictured) after her cat was 'stolen'

Tensions in the neighborhood have risen over a heartbroken Australian influencer who reported her beloved Bengal cat stolen.

Gold Coast model Olivia Mathers made a desperate plea to her 761,000 followers on Instagram earlier this month, asking them to keep an eye out for the feline named Haukie.

Haukie is still missing and Olivia thinks she knows who stole her cat or who is involved in her disappearance.

But harsh social media trolls have turned against the influencer, with several suggesting how the cat managed to disappear in the first place.

In the Facebook group Tea Time, heartless cat owners criticized the situation and claimed that everything could have been avoided if Olivia had kept her cat inside.

“You’re probably going to get punished for this, but keep your cats inside and no one will get in trouble.” They shouldn’t be roaming,’ said one user.

One member agreed: “Totally agree, my cats are happy and healthy inside, watching the wildlife from the safety of their window.”

‘You can’t really say you care about your cat if you let him wander!!! “Be a better pet owner, Olivia, and these things won’t happen,” said another.

Meanwhile, others defended Olivia and said it still doesn’t give her the right to have someone take her cat.

‘Doesn’t your cat wandering around give someone permission to steal it? “That’s like saying that if your dog ran away and someone stole it, bad luck,” someone commented.

“Regardless of whether the cat was wandering, that doesn’t mean it’s okay or that it’s your fault that someone decided to steal your cat,” one said.

Another sarcastically wrote: ‘Everyone here is SO better than her for having cats inside!!!! She comments something useful or don’t comment at all.’

“We have a chronology of events and substantial evidence that they have done something with her,” he said.

“They deflect, reject information and are horribly inconsistent with their story in the face of any direct attempt to get answers.”

Olivia shared a text message exchange between a person who said Haukie was dropped off at a pound in Coombabah on the day he disappeared.

But when the model arrived at the kennel, the staff had no record that she had been dropped off.

‘Can you confirm what day she was dropped off and when she was dropped off?’ Olivia asked the person via text, before asking for confirmation that she had the correct pound.

The person responded confirming it was the right place, claiming her father dropped off the cat and a lady who worked there said staff would “look for a chip to contact the owner.”

In a later message, the person claimed that the cat never made it into the kennel and escaped from the car before his father dropped him off.

“I talked to my dad and he didn’t tell me, but when he went to get the cat out of the car, it ran away and got scared and didn’t tell me,” the person wrote.

In her post, Olivia asked her followers and Queenslanders to keep an eye out for their beloved family pet.

“Please share it to keep the voice going while his disappearance is still fresh,” he pleaded in his caption.
