Nathan Cleary is reportedly interested in moving to the UK Super League to be closer to his partner, Mary Fowler.

In a move that would send shockwaves through the NRL, News Corp reports that a “crazy” rumour is currently circulating in football circles, with the relationship between Cleary and Fowler growing ever stronger.

As exclusively revealed by Daily Mail Australia, the Penrith star and the Matildas forward have been dating since November last year and have been looking to spend as much time together as possible, when their schedules allow.

Fowler is based in the UK with his club Manchester City, while Cleary is based in Sydney, meaning the two have limited opportunities to see each other.

City star Fowler, 21, recently spent time at home in Australia during the football off-season and was spotted with Cleary, 26, on numerous occasions.

But Cleary reportedly wants to spend more time with his girlfriend and is considering taking a year out of the NRL to play in the Super League.

However, News Corp reports that such an eventuality appears unlikely, with Panthers boss Brian Fletcher and Cleary’s manager George Mimis stressing the idea has never been raised with them.

The latest rumour comes after Cleary’s Panthers teammate Brian To’o joked that the pair are now “engaged” during a racy post-match interview earlier this month.

Fox Sports asked To’o why Panthers fans were cheering so loudly after the Panthers’ 18-12 win over the Titans.

Cleary, who has been recovering from injury, was in attendance and host Yvonne Sampson wondered if the superstar scrum-half had angered the crowd.

To’o joked that fans were cheering for Cleary and his girlfriend Fowler, who are now “engaged.”

‘They’re chilling out and everyone’s going crazy. They’re here for Nathan and Mary, so congratulations to them, I think they got engaged.
